We develop simple procedure for modification of bacterial cellulose with micro structured gelatin coating. New technology includes preparation of microstructured gelatin coating onto bacterial cellulose membrane. It is post-synthetic modification of bacterial cellulose. Procedure involves: i) pouring the gelatin-water solution containing carbodiimide cross-linkers (EDC/NHS) onto the bacterial cellulose, ii) immediate freezing onto freezing plate, iii) slow thawing (within fridge, 8°C), and iii) final washing. Resulting membranes (photo) are highly flexible, and both layers are tightly integrated.

The invention is a label that irreversibly indicates cumulative time of heating above the predefined temperature. After cooling down, the time-temperature indicator is activated, which starts the indication. When the temperature is exceeded, a coloured strip appears and its length depends on cumulative time of overheating. This way we can, for example in a cold supply chain, collect information about safety and quality of food, medicine and similar temperature-sensitive products.
Our researchers have discovered an entirely new approach to agricultural crops protection against microbial pathogens. Pathogenic microbes affecting fruit and vegetables such as potatoes, soybeans, tomatoes, tobacco and vines, secrete a number of harmful molecules that allow the microbes to infect and spread along the plant. The new targeted compounds inhibit those secreted molecules, more specifically NLP proteins, which enable the spreading of microbes into the plant, thus preventing infestation of the plant.
The Institute’s invention is a device that is comprised of a Teflon tube, permanently sealed on both ends, which contains stable cell lines. Different types of injuries demand different types of regenerative process and the device usually carries multiple types of cells, secreting multiple types of growth factors.
